WANA (Dec 11) – The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, referring to claims made by the UK’s Foreign Secretary about developments in Syria, stated: “Actors like the UK have blood on their hands when it comes to the Syrian people.”

In a post on the social media platform X, Esmail Baghaei wrote:
“David Lammy, the UK Foreign Secretary, who studied law but has made a career of justifying Israel’s genocide, claims that millions of Palestinians must be killed for it to qualify as genocide. For this reason, the UN Special Rapporteur on Palestinian Human Rights has labeled him a ‘genocide denier.’ This same individual, whose government has consistently participated in the ‘colonial erasure’ of Palestine, recently made comments in the UK parliament about the situation in Syria, effectively celebrating the bloodshed there.”

This senior Iranian diplomat added that Lammy’s remarks are “a prime example of distorting facts and hypocrisy.”

Baghaei pointed out: “Mr. Lammy should be asked how much of the ‘more than four billion pounds’ his government claims to have spent on the Syrian crisis was actually used to create and sustain that very crisis. Actors like the UK, who were instrumental in the formation and expansion of ISIS in Syria and Iraq, have their hands stained with the blood of the Syrian people. Even now, Syrians are being massacred and their infrastructure destroyed with weapons gifted by the UK to Israel.”

He concluded: “This is truly disgraceful and shameful, even for a country with a long history of the darkest forms of colonialism and multiple genocides against indigenous populations.”
